Canford Manor in Lee on the Solent celebrated D-Day last week with the home and staff fully decorated. The Nurses had bought 1940’s nurses uniforms and everyone joined in the theme of dressing from the era. Many of the residents took part in the activities and sat out on the decking to see the air displays from the nearby HMS Daedalus airport, where Spitfires took off and landed from throughout the last week and weekend, when the nation celebrated the famous events.

Photographed on the far left hand picture of the residents is our resident George Rushby, who worked on Spitfires during the second world war and was responsible for their repair once they returned damaged from gun shots!  He was thrilled to be able to see the planes above him last weekend, and hear their exhilarating and distinctive sounds, as were the other residents.
